Planning for retirement can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re dealing with everyday expenses and life’s challenges. But it’s never too early or too late to start taking small steps towards financial security and peace of mind.

I know this from experience. I took early retirement after working in the corporate world for 38 years. It took planning, discipline, and a clear vision of the future I wanted. Now, I help others build their own path to financial freedom no matter where they’re starting from.

Why retirement planning matters

Whether you’re in your 20s or your 50s, thinking about your future is important.

Retirement planning isn’t just about money. It’s about giving yourself freedom, freedom to choose how you spend your time, where you live, and what kind of life you enjoy later on.

5 Simple steps to get started:

1. Know where you stand

Take a good look at your current income, savings, and spending. If you have debts, make a plan to reduce them. Understanding your finances is the first step to taking control.

2. Set clear goals

Ask yourself: What kind of life do I want when I retire? Do I want to travel? Downsize? Support family? Your goals will help guide your savings and spending choices.

3. Start saving regularly

Even a small monthly amount can grow over time. Make it a habit and automate your savings if you can. If you’re employed, check if your workplace pension can be boosted.

4. Reduce unnecessary spending

Cutting back doesn’t mean missing out, it’s about choosing what really matters. Swap takeaways for homemade meals, or review unused subscriptions. Small changes add up.

5. Get support

You don’t have to do this alone. A coach can help you build a plan that fits your lifestyle, strengths, and future dreams. I work with people of all ages, including those with health conditions or who feel stuck and unsure where to begin.

It’s never too late

I became debt-free in my late 50s. At one point, I had to remortgage my home to get through tough times. But with focus and support, I turned things around. You can too.

If you're unsure how to plan your next steps or want support with your money mindset, life skills or wellbeing, I’m here to help.
