Most companies say people are their greatest asset, then run HR like a complaint department and sustainability like a press release. I build the opposite: integrated operating models where the People function and the ESG function aren't separate departments. They're the same operating system. Compensation philosophy is sustainability. Inclusive workforce design is sustainability. Culture, governance, wellness, pay equity. Done well, these aren't ESG line items. They're how People delivers business performance. Not in theory. In practice. I built the People function from the ground up, and concurrently architected ESG, cybersecurity governance, and AI enablement, for a B Corp certified company in a regulated industry, reporting to the CEO on the Executive Leadership Team. Sustainability wasn't on the side of the org chart. It was embedded in how we hired, paid, measured, and governed. The result: back-to-back EcoVadis Platinum (top 1% globally), B Corp certification, and ESG as a client-acquisition lever. On AI: it's not a tool you bolt on. It's another member of the team, a mirror that reflects and accelerates what humans do best. Done poorly, it becomes a governance problem with no one accountable. AI in the workforce is a people leadership story before a technology story. A few things I believe: → People strategy isn't a support function. It's the operating system the business runs on. → Sustainability needs teeth. Embedded in operations, compensation, governance, and culture, or it doesn't count. → Quiet authority beats loud titles. Every time. Before this was a corporate title, I was a business owner. Thirteen years running a multi-location operation. I learned servant leadership before I had a word for it. I'm also a volunteer firefighter and EMT. A call teaches you triage under pressure: read the situation, act, reassess. Same skill that runs through any operating model under stress. What changes is who it serves: not strategy, not optics, not your career. Just what the person in front of me needs, and how fast I can deliver it. The corporate world calls this servant leadership because it had to invent a term for what first responders just call the job. What I'm looking for: a growth-stage company that wants this operating system installed by someone who's done it. VP People, Chief People Officer, or a blended People + Sustainability seat where culture and trust are the competitive advantages they actually are. If that's the kind of company you're building, let's talk. Open to fractional. Remote-first. Madison, Alabama.
